Fun Activities to do When You're Bored

2020 has been a doozy of a year and it has left many of our summer plans in limbo. Beach trips are being canceled, camping excursions are flopping, and mountainside getaways are postponed.

The summertime adventures we are so used to are going to look a lot different this year, but that doesn’t mean we have to sit inside and be bored all day!
All it takes is getting creative to make a boring day into an awesome one. Below is a list of 9 activities to try when you’re bored at home during your quarantine. Check it out!

Go outside (responsibly!)

Although many parks and beaches are closed, you can still enjoy the great outdoors in your own backyard. Lie out to sunbathe with a yummy pina colada. Have a bonfire and set up a tent in the backyard for a night out under the stars. Create an obstacle course for the kids to get some energy out. Getting some sun can really benefit your health, and we need all the health we can get during this crazy time. Make sure to wear your sunscreen!

Get active.

Now it’s more important than ever to get enough exercise. It’s so easy to get in a workout rut during this time away from the gym. So get creative! Do some yoga in your living room, or try a hip hop cardio video on YouTube for a fun dance workout. Take a run around your neighborhood, or turn a room in your house into a part-time gym and break a sweat in there.

Organize your home.

Take this extra time spent at home as an opportunity to get your home sparkly clean. Go through one room at a time and pick up clutter, organize your belongings into pretty containers, and you’ll be organized in no time. Do some spring cleaning while you’re at it!

Go through old pictures and videos.

Take a trip down memory lane by looking through your photo and tape collections. Get some popcorn and have a family viewing party of old home movies. Flip through your photo albums and have a laugh at funny memories. And while you’re at it, order a Legacybox to get your photos and tapes digitized!

Get crafty.

There are so many cool DIY projects online to try during your quarantine. Whether you’re making home decor or doing an entire home renovation, there are lots of tutorials online that will walk you through the process.

Make a vision board.

During these uncertain times we can lose our sense of control. One way to regain that is to make a vision board. A vision board can help focus you on future goals and events so that the present feels less out of whack. Get a piece of poster board and print off images that inspire you or remind you of your goals and things you are looking forward to. Make a collage of words and images and wa-la! You have a vision board.

Call your friends and family.

Just because we’re socially distancing doesn’t mean we have to isolate ourselves virtually! Call up your family often during these times and stay connected to what’s going on in their lives. FaceTime with old friends and catch up. It’s so important to stay involved in each others’ lives right now despite the physical distance we are keeping.

Try out new recipes.

Now is the perfect time to test out some new recipes for future gatherings! Pick up a new cookbook or just search online for some interesting meals and desserts and get to the kitchen. Who knows, you might make a new family favorite!

Play a game.

When you’re really bored, there’s one thing that is sure to perk your spirits up: board games! Board games can be super fun for you and your family, and they provide a way to spend some quality time together. The most popular board games are often sold at supermarkets, so if you don’t have one, you can pick one up during your next shopping trip.

Practice self-care.

If you’re feeling anxious at all during these unsettling times, you’re not alone. It’s normal to be nervous or concerned when the future is uncertain. One great way to deal with that anxiety is to practice self-care. Take a long, hot bubble bath. Give yourself a mani-pedi. Go for a peaceful stroll outside. Snuggle with a furry friend. Do whatever makes you happiest - it will improve your mental health!

Don’t let the summer fly by in boredom. Take some time for yourself and try some of these activities. You and your family will be having fun in no time!
