Legacybox vs. Southtree

So you have tons of old movies and pictures, and it’s time to bring them into the digital age. The good news is that we have the technology. The bad news is that there are different places to go, and deciding which is best can be time consuming, confusing, and annoying.

Don’t worry, we’re here to the rescue. We’ll walk you through the differences between Legacybox and Southtree and let you know what you get from each. That way, you can make an informed decision about which digitizing company you should trust with your precious memories.

First, the Basics

Legacybox is headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It’s the simple, safe, we’ve thought of everything mail-in solution for digitizing your recorded moments. They’ll send you a box that you pack with your home movies, photos and film. Then you use the pre-paid return mailing label to send it back to them, and Legacybox take care of the rest! In a few weeks, you’ll get your originals back, plus DVDs and optional thumb drive, ready to watch share and enjoy. It’s that easy.

Southtree is also located in Chattanooga, but the service they provide is a little bit different. They’re more of a DIY option for folks that want to customize their digitization. With Southtree you can select what resolution you want your items converted to (high or pro). Pricing is also based on the exact items you send in, versus the box packages that Legacybox offers. With Southtree, you’re responsible for packing up and mailing in your video tapes, photos, and audio tapes. Southtree then converts everything by hand, sending back your originals and optional thumb drive.

Diving a Little Deeper

So Which Do I Choose?

When it comes down to it, both Southtree and Legacybox do a great job of digitizing your home movies, photos, and audio tapes. The difference between the two comes down to how custom of a package you need. Southtree is perfect for single tapes, film reels, or photos, while Legacybox is a more convenient option if you have a bunch of stuff. Both companies take great care to ensure your memories stay private, remain in good condition, and return to you quickly.
