Transfer Digital8 Cassette Tapes to DVD
Digital8 video recording tapes were introduced to the world in 1999. While—thanks to the artist currently known as Prince—you are still invited to party like it’s 1999, we wouldn’t recommend storing your family memories like it’s 1999. Otherwise, when it comes time to screen the old family movies, the tapes will be unwatchable and you will be officially labeled a party pooper by everyone in the room. Get those old digital 8 cassettes converted to thumb drive, digital delivery through Legacybox Cloud™ or DVD right away with Legacybox.
If your digital technology needs a history lesson, it’s time to consider how rapidly things have changed, and how you might be at risk for a family memories meltdown. Digital 8 was the final progression of the 8mm Sony Handycam era, and part of the first wave of digital technology. Video8 tapes were analog. Hi8 tapes offered improved resolution. Do you have any Digital-8 tapes? Like Video 8 and Hi8, they are about the size of a deck of playing cards, they are half an inch thick, 2 ½ inches wide, and just under 4 inches tall. Digital8 retained the same physical cassette as its predecessors, but the format in which video was encoded and stored on the tape itself is the entirely digital format. I guess looks can be deceiving. Also deceiving? Digital formats that were stored on magnetic tape. Yes, Digital 8 it has the word “digital” in it, but that doesn’t mean the format was safe for long term storage. Digital-8 tapes degrade just as fast as anything else stored on tape. Which means they are waving bye-bye as we speak. It’s like your Uncle Jeff, the terrible driver. You might be a dummy, or you might be Einstein, but if you ride with Uncle Jeff, you’re going to get in an accident either way.
You were responsible enough to buy digital when it was brand new. Continue that tradition by freeing your digital recordings from Uncle Jeff’s car (also known as magnetic tape) and give them a new home on long-lasting thumb drive, digital delivery through Legacybox Cloud™ or DVD. Our Digital8 to digital transfer service is fast, easy, and we will stay in touch with you throughout the entire process. Our technicians see to the safe digitization and conversion of hundreds of tapes every day, right in our own studio. We send you a crushproof Legacybox with pre-paid Fedex shipping and tracking (both ways). After everything is transferred to digital, we return all of your original tapes, so you can show off your little piece of history—the crossroads where tape met digital.
