1. CHATTANOOGA, TN

Don’t pronounce it with a hard T in the middle and be sure to pronounce the A. Chattanooga is a gem in the Southeast. This mid-sized city has something for everyone. Voted the #1 outdoor town in America by Outdoor Magazine, you can hike, rock climb, kayak, stand up paddle board, and more. Even though it gets humid in the summer, there are plenty of places to cool off. For a really cool experience, check out one of the best Aquariums in the entire country right on the banks of the Tennessee river.

2. CHARLESTON, SC

One of the oldest cities in the South, this charming Oceanside town is a must-visit for anyone. Colonial architecture, an expansive blue ocean, and beautiful greenways are all great things to see here. Check out historic downtown for a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. If you’re into national parks, Congaree is only a couple of hours away.

3. ORLANDO, FL

Everyone has Disney World on their bucket list. That’s enough to put Orlando on our list. Whether you’re going to check out Disney, Universal Studios, or Epcot, there’s no shortage of places to see and things to do. If theme parks aren’t your thing, Daytona Beach is only about an hour away, and they still let you drive your car right onto the beach. Bring your towels!

4. NEW ORLEANS, LA

One of the most unique cities in the entire country, New Orleans features great food, friendly people, and a culture unlike anything else in the USA. This old city is the crossroads of French, British, and native traders, and those legacies all permeate the city. Make sure to walk down Bourbon Street and enjoy great tunes all night long. Pick up some gumbo while you’re there.

5. ASHEVILLE, NC

Asheville is what happens when hippies decide to move to the South. It’s nestled right on the outskirts of the Great Smoky National Park, the most popular national park in the entire country. The drive from Asheville to Knoxville is one of the most beautiful, and the mountains feel like they’re within arm’s reach. The Biltmore estate is one of the biggest houses ever built, and there’s a cool vineyard on location. Don’t forget to hike in the Appalachians and quench your thirst with any of the award winning breweries right downtown. The southeast is more that just Atlanta, Charlotte, and farm land. It has some truly amazing gems that every American should see at some point. The best part is that Southern hospitality is a real thing, and you’ll never find nicer and happier people anywhere else you go!
