The 4th of July is one fun-filled day to celebrate the birthday of America. The air is filled with the smell of grilled hot dogs, sunscreen and fire works-what more could you want? Everyone celebrates the holiday's differently, but there are some traditions that we just can't seem to change. The 4th of July holds dear to some tried and true traditions that will never change and stay true to our 4th of July memories. As we celebrate America, do you do these fun traditions?
1. Parades
No matter
where you are, there's guaranteed to be a parade somewhere. Cities/towns are notorious for throwing a small parade on the 4th of July. This is perfect for your
kiddos and the best excuse to collect free candy. Plus, who doesn't want to see fire trucks, cop cars, horses and vintage cars?
2. The Food
This...this might be the best part of the entire holiday. Food, at any holiday, holds a special place in everyone's hearts and stomachs. Picture it now: a long table outside filled with burgers, hot dogs, pasta salads, chips galore, watermelon and more. Why is it that any other day... these foods would taste normal? However, on the 4th of July, nothing could be more delicious! A nice, perfectly grilled hot dog topped with mustard and ketchup in one hand, a handful of crisp and salty potato chips in the other - just about to hit your mouth- and a nice, cold Coca-Cola to wash it all down. Mmmm...
3. Lake Day
Nothing beats Independence Day when you have a boat. Cruising on the water, listening to the radio and soaking up some sun makes for a great 4th of July. Whether your in a pontoon boat, or zipping down the water in a jet ski/speed boat, your day is bliss. From flying off tubes, to floating in the nice, cool water, your holiday will be so relaxing. Just don't forget to wear sunscreen! The lake and the beach are both grand Independence Day places.
4. Fireworks
This is so obvious, but we had to add it to the list. Whether you're watching them from the lake, beach, backyard or park, this is truly a special moment. Everyone gathering together to delight in magical and artistic eruptions while declaring our freedom is something to be celebrated. From large fireworks, to even the small ones that sound like screaming banshee's, they are so much fun!
5. Country, Classic Rock and the occasional Katy Perry
Everyone's jamming out to something, but on the 4th of July, country or classic rock is typically what can be heard. Who can resist those
80's classics? Everyone's listening to "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood, "Independence Day" by Carrie Underwood, or "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams..and it's awesome! Plus, there's always the occasional Katy Perry. Who can resist playing "Fireworks" ?
6. FacePaint
No matter the age, there is always room for some face paint. Completely replicate the American Flag or switch it up with just stripes or just stars!
7. Baseball
Baseball is one of America's favorite sports, so why not throw a couple baseball's around? We're talking full on
Sandlot here. Gear up with some P.F. Flyers, a big wad of gum and a baseball cap. This simple outdoor activity is not only nostalgic, but relaxing.
8. Bon Fire
When the sun sets, it's time to get that bon fire roaring. Bon fire's are perfect for some relaxing conversation, enjoying the fireworks while sitting by the fire's glow or even just staring quietly at the burning embers...we've all been there. PLUS, bon fire's pair perfectly with some graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate. That's right: s'mores. Enjoy some gooey, sugary goodness while melted chocolate secretly paints your entire chin without you realizing it. You're killin' me smalls.
9. Red, White and Blue EVERYTHING
We all know those certain shirts or pants that only come out on the 4th of July. Everyone is decked out in their best red, white and blue attire. Whether you have crazy red, white and blue socks that are a must for Independence Day or you have a pair of awesome overall's that you've been saving just for this occasion...you'll look rad.
10. Friends and Family
Regardless of the food, clothing and music, having your family/friends come together makes this day amazing. You get to celebrate with the people who make you laugh uncontrollably, the one's you've grown up with and created the most fondest
memories and the one's who have stuck by your side. We celebrate America, home of the brave, with those who encourage us to be strong.
