Throw the Best Throwback Viewing Party

When you think of watch parties, the first thing that may come to mind is the big game, award shows and Game of Thrones. But watch parties aren’t just limited to upcoming sporting events, celebrity congratulations or the most trendy show at the time.

Sometimes the best watch parties put your oldest memories front and center. After all, what’s more fun than watching old – and probably humorously embarrassing – memories with your friends and family?

So, if you’ve got all your old VHS and cassette tapes digitized by Legacybox, it’s time to host a killer watch party. Don’t worry, we’ve got all the essentials to making your upcoming viewing a blast from the past!

Be Our Guest

It’s time to prepare your home, inside and out depending on where you plan to have our watch party. The last thing you want to do is not have enough space for your guests to sit comfortably, so rearrange furniture and declutter as much as possible. This includes making sure your bathroom is up to spec because it’s going to get some heavy traffic.

Tell the Neighbors

This step is only crucial if you’re having a viewing party outside and your intent is to get a bit rowdy. Sure, a bunch of cars parked outside the house or apartment may be somewhat of a nuisance for your neighbors, but that doesn’t necessarily warrant a heads up, unless parking is already tight. Use your common sense and ask yourself, would you want to be informed if it was your neighbor having the watch party?

Preview Your Screening

The last thing you want to do is have a bunch of people over to watch some old family footage just to embarrassingly realize you don’t have the media to play it or it doesn’t work. So be sure to test your tech.

Feed the Masses

Let’s be honest. People are coming over to watch your old home movies and memories, but they’re really coming over to socialize and eat your food. All of it. So make sure you’ve got a solid spread of appetizers, drinks and entrees – and that your kitchen appliances are in working order in case someone needs to warm up a dish, etc. And if you want to make it a little easier on your kitchen, then have your guests bring over their own drinks or a dish to add to the food pile.

Not to dampen the mood, but did you know that most states hold party hosts responsible for what guests end up doing behind the wheel? So if you’re planning on serving adult beverages, you might want to brush up on your host liquor liability laws.

Enjoy the Show

This may feel like a no-brainer, but make sure you actually enjoy yourself. Sometimes the host of a watch party can get caught up in trying too hard to entertain, not taking time to actually relax and have fun. Don’t be that host. It’s your party, enjoy it!
